Danny ChanAsia Pacific Centre for Food Integrity
A third generation New Zealand Chinese, Danny was brought up in Wellington. After spending 16 years in the insurance and investment management fields in New Zealand during the 70s and the 80s. Danny was appointed by Fidelity Investments of USA, the largest fund management company in the world, to the Board of their Asia/Pacific operation and to head their Taiwan office in 1986.
Danny returned to New Zealand in 1994 to develop his own business interests, including education, investment management, financial and business consultancy, floriculture, seafood processing and security systems.
After graduation from Victoria University of Wellington with Honours in 1973, Danny became a part-time lecturer and tutor in managerial finance and business analysis at Victoria University of Wellington for 12 years. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand and a member of the Cost and Management Association. He is also a Fellow of the Certified Securities Analyst Professional and a member of the Institute of Directors.
Danny holds a number of directorships in New Zealand. He is the Deputy Chairman of Academic Colleges Group Limited, the largest private education group in New Zealand. In 2009, Danny was appointed to the Board of Abano Healthcare Limited, an NZX listed healthcare provider. His other directorships including Flowerzone International Limited, Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development Limited and Farmers Mutual Group.
He was a former director of Everbright Pacific Limited, a subsidiary of one of the largest Chinese government owned conglomerates, China Everbright Limited. He was also a director of Airways Corporation Limited, a state owned air traffic management company and AgResearch Limited, a crown owned scientific research company that specializes in agricultural and biotechnology developments.
Having served on the Board of a number of both private and state owned companies for many years, Danny is very familiar with all aspects of governance. With an accounting and finance qualification Danny is a member of the Audit and Risk Committee on these Boards that his on.
Danny is a member of the NZ-China Executive Advisory Council and a member of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet China Project Advisory Group. He is also a member of the New Zealand Stock Exchange NZ Markets Disciplinary Tribunal.
Through his long involvement with the education, investment, insurance, floriculture and export industries, Danny has developed an extensive network of contacts in both NZ and Asia. He is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, as well as, very familiar with the protocols of Asian and western cultures. Danny acts as an advisor for several New Zealand companies for their Asia marketing and joint venture operations.
